About JABO

JABO Design was born out of Allen Jablonski's deep experience with architecture, design, and handcrafts, as well as out of his passion for meaningful collaboration. After almost 30 years of architecture practice and increasingly bigger projects, Allen felt that he was not involved enough in conceptual aspects of projects. He spent many years in the development and spread of CAD and BIM as architectural tools, but felt that projects were often slave to the limitations of the software and hardware's capability. He was not as engaged as he used to be, so stepped away from the field for a while, and pursued other related career paths.

But Allen missed brainstorming and tracing paper! He felt that by starting JABO, a collaborative design group, he could become more closely involved in those aspects of the project where he was needed most.

 

The "Design a la Carté" idea developed out of his desire to jump into phases of projects, both with clients and colleagues, whenever and wherever there was energy, excitement, and need. By leaving behind unwieldy and often expensive contracts, and working in small stages as need arises, Allen hopes to meet architectural challenges with passion, gusto, and excitement for possibilities.

 

There is a place for computers and modeling programs in architecture, but be warned that he will go "old school" with pencil and paper as often as possible. He just thinks it's faster, more fun, and everyone can do it together. It also reduces our expenses and in turn, the cost to you, making the skills and benefits of an architect available to as many folks as possible, not just those with deep pockets.
